As we enter into October I want to remind everyone to complete your monthly self-check! Some insurance companies will even cover a baseline mammogram at 35 to detect your risk.
Although, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I love that we have this, but it’s not all about the pink ribbons, shirts, and decorations! It’s about finding a cure, it’s about educating people that it can happen to anyone, you don’t want to be the 1 in 4.
I was tested for BRCA prior to getting pregnant with my son as a precaution because of my family history (Mother and Aunt both had breast cancer). It came back negative which makes you feel a little better, but boom 7 years later here I am.. They can’t detect a genetic link and no reason behind it at all and no explanation to the lengthy family history.
I’m so lucky that I caught it when I did but it’s only because I knew my body and made the decision to self-check! It saved my life.
So before you go out and buy all the pink breast cancer stuff check your boobs and make sure that money is going to the right place.
THIS IS BREAST CANCER at 35.
